Makeup Tips to Help You Look Less Tired

„Why are you looking so tired?“ This is one of the most irritating things you can hear, especially if you have taken the time to apply your makeup and do your hair. I had this problem. This was the sentence that my friends greeted me almost every day for nearly a year. And the worst thing is that I don’t think they were being passive aggressive. They were really worried that I wasn’t getting plenty sleep. I tried everything – I tried to sleep more, to apply more concealer and I started using foundation instead of my tinted moisturizer but it didn’t help. People still asked me questions about my sleeping habits.

Kate Hudson‘s favorite trick to look more refreshed is to stick her face in a sinkful of ice but this is not what I wanted to do first thing in the morning. This is why I visited Jamie Greenberg, makeup professional at Mark. After I spoke to him, I realized that many women are not applying their makeup correctly and this results in a less-than-fresh complexion. Here are some of the most frequent errors:

The Error: A flat-colored face with no added makeup definition.

The Remedy: Jamie says that he adores a flushed cheek. He recommends Mark’s Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint because it is excellent for adding some dimension to your face and it is very simple to apply.

The Error: Having a heavy smoky eye. Jamie explained that most women think „the more the better“, so they pile on dark shadow, but it just closes their eyes and makes them look weary and little.

The Remedy: If you want to get a dramatic look which doesn’t make you look so tired you should apply a metallic cream shadow, such as Maybelline Color Tattoo.

The Error: Using heavy concealer under your eyes in the wrong shade. Jamie explains that this can make your eyes look more tired and dry and it may end up looking cakey.

The Remedy: You should use a nice day and night eye cream, such as  Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Gel to moisturize your eye area. Also, you should use a concealer which matches your skin tone instead of trying to go heavier and darker with your concealer. To avoid caking on multiple layers you should use a concealer with more pigment.

The Error: Going out pale as death.

The Remedy: Even the fair-skinned women can use Mark’s Glowdacious Illuminating Powder to fake a little color. Jamie says that looking tan will wake you up immediately.

The Error: Applying eye shadow or eyeliner in reddish or pink shades. Jamie explains that there is certainly a time and place for this look but the problem is that it may bring out the red in your eyes when you are tired and this is not the thing you want to highlight.

The Remedy: You should try a black or brown liner. Use shades in the blue/green family if you want to ass a pop of color. You can make your eyes look brighter by applying peach-colored or white liner on the inner rims of your eyes.

You should focus your attention on your eye makeup if you still feel like you are looking a bit sluggish. Apply individual eyelashes to the external corners of your eyes to open them because this will make the illusion of wider eyes. Jamie also recommends filling in the upper eyelash line. He says that this is his favourite tip, because it makes your eyes wide and people can’t see that you are wearing makeup. In the end, put your mascara to use. Jamie says that you can open up and define your eyes, making you look alert and awake if you apply mascara.
