An impeccable face is something all people look for, whether it is in the homemade acne mask we see on Pinterest or at the bottom of a face cream container. We asked Dendy Engelman MD, a dermatologist, to tell us the most important rules to gorgeous, clear skin.
- Exfoliation is crucial.
As the temperature begins to rise, your skin tends to become more oily. Exfoliating your skin helps to eliminate the dead skin cells which build up on the surface of your skin, which can clog pores and cause blemishes and blackheads. Exfoliating the skin leaves it clean and glowing.
- You should take one day off.
It’s evident, but crucial. Dr Engelman says that you should take off your makeup first and then go to bed. She says that you should try cleansing wipes, such as Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action On-The-Go Wipes. They are a fast and simple way to remove dirt and makeup when you don’t have energy or time for your whole beauty routine.
- You should cleanse upward.
Dr Engelman explains that when you apply lotions and serums or cleanse your face, you should always rub it into your skin in an upward, circular motion because in this way you will allow active ingredients to quickly enter the skin’s surface and eliminate trapped dirt, bacteria and oils.
- You should give your skin a break.
One time a week you should spend a whole day without makeup. Dr Engelman explains that this provides a rest from oils, allergens, fragrances and preservatives for the people who have acne prone or sensitive skin.
- You should apply your makeup in a downward motion.
Dr Engelman suggests applying your makeup in a downward motion. In this way your makeup will sit on top of the skin and it won’t be lodged in the pores.
